Rajahmundry Kalamkari Heritage
Rajahmundry is renowned for its Kalamkari block-printing tradition, a centuries-old art form that uses hand-carved wooden blocks to create intricate patterns and narrative-based textile designs. This traditional craft, deeply rooted in Andhra Pradesh’s cultural heritage, is known for depicting mythological stories, floral motifs, and symbolic elements through natural colours and detailed craftsmanship. Distinct from the hand-painted Kalamkari style of Srikalahasti, the Rajahmundry variation emphasizes block-printing techniques that preserve the authenticity of local artisan practices and textile artistry.
