In AWE marks a significant milestone – 11 years of Evolution and Growth
From its humble beginnings as an information portal, it has expanded to publishing magazines, organizing conferences, workshops, and social campaigns. Through commitments to sustainability and collaborations over last many years with organizations as Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce, Indian Green Building Congress, GIZ, WRI, Development Alternatives & most recently with WICCI & Akasa, In AWE has grown, embracing sustainability as a continuous process of engagement.
This event held at Pearey Lal Bhawan was a landmark occasion, that showcased the intersection of art, architecture, and design.
The congregation saw participation of many architects, artists and speakers with an inspiring talk by former Culture & Arts Minister Mrs. Meenakshi Lekhi.
Pearey Lal Bhawan (PLB) Delhi’s oldest cultural hub situated in the heart of the city comes under the lineage of Late Lala Pearey Lal Ji a philanthropist, social worker and one of the founders of Hindu College. He had a vision to build a hub for cultural and social activities in the name of the Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. His vision and dream were given shape by his later generations who built Pearey Lal Bhawan and inaugurated the auditorium Gandhi Memorial Hall on 16th April 1973. This heritage building was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Late Smt. Indira Gandhi Ji. PLB is managed by Pearey Lal Bhawan Association, a society working towards maintaining the cities cultural and social traditions.
Built by the famous Architect AP Kanvinde & Engineer Mahendra Raj Ji, whose works are situated all over Delhi, it still takes pride in being one of Delhi’s famous landmarks. It is not only rich in heritage value but 52 years later prides on successfully mainting the ancestry and old school charm while incorporating modern ideas, techniques and facilities. Comprising of an auditorium, two art galleries and an amphitheatre it is spread over 1.5 acres of land.
The cultural hub is now looked after by the 5th Generation of the family, Ms. Raakhi Agarwal a member of the governing body of the society.
Ar. Dipika Tuteja, who talked about how being Founder of In AWE, Vice President of WICCI National Architecture Council & curator of Akasa, she brought these together like a jigsaw puzzle. ART is the Artistic Representation of Thoughts be it architecture, art in realms of five senses or design , it is an idea and a thought, is ether and is the Atman of the body that envelopes it, in this case the building is how she defined it.
The presentation about the architecture of the Bhawan was done by Ar. Sanjay Kanvinde & Ar. Tanuja Kanvinde, Structure of the Bhawan by Ar. Rohit Raj Mehndiratta & Ar. Vandini Mehta.
Prof Charanjit Singh Shah while announcing his upcoming Akasa Design Gurukul, shared his views on Art architecture and design that how it needs to complement each other in the holistic development of human settlement. It also needs to express the art and architecture for three Ps, Place, people and purpose as the design reflects the inter-relationship of cultural heritage of the region, state, nation and the overall sub-continent thus creating belongingness to the people.
Ar. Ankon Mitra shared his presentation on the art of Origami in Architecture that he described as ‘Oritecture’.
